It's not exactly a state secret that Roberto Luongo wants to go to Florida and in a perfect world, the Canucks would send him there. There's a bit of a stalemate now, as the Panthers feel Vancouver is asking too much and the Canucks feel Florida is squeezing too hard. One of the issues is prospects. Florida, which has done a great job stocking the system, is understandably unwilling to move Jacob Markstrom, Erik Gudbranson or Jonathan Huberdeau. An educated guess is that Vancouver has inquired about the "next level" of talented youth, like a Nick Bjugstad or Quinton Howden. Don't think Florida likes that, either. So, between that and the fact the Canucks don't want to take bad salary in return, things aren't really moving at this time.

Szerintem nem jön Loungo.

Florida Panthers Executive VP & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with C James Wright. In addition, the club has agreed to one-year contracts with D Mike Caruso and G Brian Foster.

Wright, 22, appeared in 54 games for San Antonio (AHL) last season, recording 28 points (11-17-28) and 23 PIM after being acquired from Tampa Bay on Dec. 2, 2011, along with D Mike Vernace in exchange for D Mike Kostka and D Evan Oberg. Wright posted five points (1-4-5) and six PIM in 22 games with the Norfolk Admirals prior to the trade. The Saskatoon, Sask. native has played in 49 NHL games over his career, all with Tampa Bay (2009-2011) recording five points (2-3-5). Caruso, 24, played in 68 games with San Antonio last season, registering 13 points (5-8-13) and 63 PIM. He appeared in 10 playoffs games notching four assists. For his professional career, Caruso has played in 283 AHL contests with Rochester (2008-10) and San Antonio scoring 12 goals with 31 assists. The top line of Fleischmann, Versteeg, and Weiss should stuck around, andd the second line looks to be Huberdeau, Mueller, and maybe Upshall. However, a guy like Semin or Doan could easily slide into Scottie’s slot for a more potent offensive presence.

"You played for my hometown team," said Siddiqui, who is from Miami.

"Who’s that?" asked Luongo.

"The Florida Panthers," answered Siddiqui.

"Oh yeah, I might be going back there," said Luongo, while smiling.

"Yeah?" asked Siddiqui.

"Might be," replied Luongo.

This year’s sleeper for Tallon and the Florida Panthers may be forward Peter Mueller who was signed for one year at $1.75 million. An original first round (6th overall) pick in 2006 by the Phoenix Coyotes, Mueller is a winger who can play on either the right side or the left side, and has quickness, and a good shot. He played 32 games for the Colorado Avalanche last season with 7 goals and 19 assists. His time was limited due to injuries.

Florida Panthers Executive Vice President & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to entry-level contracts with G Michael Houser and D Josh McFadden.

“Michael and Josh competed very hard at our development camp last week and both players demonstrated that they deserved contracts with our club,” said Tallon. “We look forward to watching both players grow and develop within our organization.”

Goaltender Michael Houser

Houser, 19, won the Red Tilson Trophy as the most outstanding player in the Ontario Hockey League recording a 46-15-1 mark, while playing for London last season. He also was the first American-born player and first player from London to be named the Canadian Hockey League's top goaltender. The Wexford, Pa. native posted a 2.47 goals-against average, had six shutouts, with a .925 save percentage.

Houser played in a Canadian Hockey League-high 3,698 minutes last season, while tying the OHL record for wins in a season with 46. He helped London win the OHL title and advance to the Memorial Cup championship game. He was No. 16 in NHL Central Scouting's final ranking of North American goalies for the 2012 NHL Draft, but went unselected.

Defenseman Josh McFadden

McFadden, 21, has spent the last three years playing for the Sudbury Wolves (OHL). Last season, he led team blueliners with 41 points, including 15 goals in 47 games played. During the 2010-2011 campaign, the Guelph, Ont. native recorded a career best 19 goals with 53 assists, while pacing the Wolves with 72 points.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound defenseman also served as team captain for Sudbury during the 2011-2012 season.

When this past season ended, Florida Panthers winger, Kris Versteeg, became a restricted free agent. Versteeg wants to stay here in Florida. Last season, Versteeg had his best season as a professional, scoring a career high 54 points.

The New Jersey Devils have agreed on a contract with free-agent forward Krystofer Barch. The (Bergen) Record is reporting it's a two-year deal worth $750,000 annually.

A six-year NHL veteran, Barch split last season between the Dallas Stars and Florida Panthers, posting two goals, five points and 114 penalty minutes in 51 games.

As reported on NHL.com today, goaltender Michael Houser who was invited to developmental camp has signed an entry level deal with the Florida Panthers. A great step forward for the young netminder who has battled through a birth defect which many felt would prevent him from playing hockey at all. We ran a story on Michael last week and if you click here you can read about his courageous efforts.

Houser who performed well in camp, was headed to Winnipeg to participate in theirs, but that won’t be necessary after signing today with the Panthers. After being passed over in three NHL drafts, this comes as quite an accomplishment for the youngster who is ready to continue his pursuit of an NHL career.

In three seasons of play in the OHL, Houser has a 93-38-7 record with a 2.90 GAA and a .912 save percentage. Numbers that can’t be ignored. As far as where he fits in right now, remains to be seen, yet you can never have enough good goaltenders, and Houser could emerge better than anyone expected. With Jacob Markstrom slated to be in San Antonio this season, he’ll likely be ready to compete as a number one in 2013. That leaves Brian Foster, and Sam Brittain as goaltenders that you can consider as prospects. Foster is 25, Brittain is 20 and Houser is 19.

This move not only adds depth to the organization, but will also create some healthy competition amongst the three. At some point down the road, one of them will have to emerge and work with Markstrom should Jacob become the top guy as planned.

Congrats to Michael Houser. His story is certainly one that you can get behind, and hope that he gets to live his dream.

Loungo:

Chicago now enters the conversation, but the latest development from Vancouver hints that the Panthers are still the frontrunner in the Luongo Sweepstakes.

According to Rumor Central on espn.com, there is speculation that Vancouver GM Mike Gillis would demand that Jose Theodore would be part of the deal that would send Luongo to Florida. With back-up netminder Scott Clemmensen re-signed to a two year deal, that would make Luongo the starter with Clemmensen behind him, and top prospect Jakob Markstrom would still be waiting in the wing in San Antonio.

There is a hiccup in that scenario, according to those sources: Theodore has a limited no-trade clause that reveals only ten teams to whom he could be dealt without issues, and the Canucks are not part of that list.

Érdekes lesz!

George Parros: The Man Behind the Mustache

After the Freeze he played his college hockey at Princeton University where he majored, and graduated with a degree in economics. In his freshman year at Princeton Parros was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 8th round of the NHL Entry Draft. Instead of joining the NHL Parros stayed at Princeton for a few more years. He took it easy on the ivy league boys. He had a sporadic record at Princeton, scoring no more than 22 points in a season. Can’t blame him though, he was also solving the world’s economic crisis at the same time. After graduation Parros decided playing hockey was more fun than a desk job.

The 32 year-old right wing is much more than a sack of muscle though, he is a tool that Tallon and coach Kevin Dineen will use to mold the future of the franchise. He’s a proven goal scorer, a tough guy, and has more intelligence than most guys on the ice-pad. Parros isn’t a bodyguard, he’s a mentor, and he’s a coach on the ice for young kids like Huberdeau, Erik Gudbranson, Nick Bjugstad, and Quinton Howden.

Közgazdász a bajszos!

Kuba is a seasoned veteran who can mentor a lot of the younger players in the process of helping the team on the ice. His big body replaces Garrisons medium sized body, and his vision on the ice will help on the powerplay. For a big body, he does not shoot that much, but I’m sure his slap shot could still pack a punch. Although the J-52 Bomber is gone, the KUBAN MISSILE has arrived.

Ellerby 1 évre aláírt!

Florida Panthers Executive VP & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms with D Keaton Ellerby on a one-year contract extension.

“Keaton is a young, mobile, hard working defenseman that continues to grow and develop,” said Tallon. “We look forward to his continued contributions to our team both on and off the ice.”

Ellerby, 23, has played in 116 National Hockey League games for Florida registering 17 points (2-15-17) and 34 PIM. The 6-foot-4, 217-pound defenseman played in 40 games with the Panthers during the 2011-12 regular season, recording five assists and 10 PIM. Ellerby also made his NHL playoff debut in Game 4 against the New Jersey Devils.

Jean-Francois Jacques, who spent most of last season in the American Hockey League, signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Florida Panthers on Thursday. Financial terms of the deal were not released.

Jacques, a 27-year-old left wing, was held without a point in six games with the Anaheim Ducks last season. But in 65 games with the club's AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, he had 21 goals and 19 assists.

A 2003 second-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers, Jacques has nine goals and eight assists in 166 NHL games with the Oilers and Ducks.
